Christmas 2010, Part 2

Sorry that things have been in such random order. I have written what I have felt like writing.  After a few days I'll order these chronologically.  Sorry if this bothers you. It shouldn't. :-)  (But if it does I understand, 'cause it bothers me a little.  But I can let it go... for a bit.)

Christmas Day was really nice.  For starters, we arrived home from Denver on the evening of Dec. 23rd, which was just enough time to get unpacked and then to spend Thursday baking. I don't always bake a whole bunch for Christmas; it's one of the things that doesn't get done if we go away. Plus, I sometimes feel like no one needs any more junk to eat, but since I enjoy the goodies we're given I decided to bake a lot this year. I actually started in November, but much of what I made was found and devoured by the hungry masses. (Imagine!)  So I baked more.  We delivered lots of things to home and visiting teaching families and other church friends. I also baked for our neighbors, babysitters, and friends in town.  The older kids helped me deliver a few plates on Christmas Eve.  Then we returned home and read the Christmas story.  This year we even acted it out.  (We had avoided doing that for awhile because it always seemed like a fiasco, but with everyone older and a little more mature we tried again. It was (fairly) reverent but also entertaining (imagine Taylor as an angel that must be color-coordinated, sings her part with gusto, and has a great hairdo).  I also read several Christmas stories from our collection of Ensign articles.  That was the spiritual highlight of our evening.
Christmas day we opened presents and ate.  This was  bit unusual; for a couple of years now we've opened presents on a different day than we've had our meal.  This tradition began after Corbin was born; I wanted to enjoy Christmas but wasn't sure I could manage the Santa show and the cooking and still enjoy the day.  Anyway, this year we did it all and it was still fun.  (We didn't give a ton of gifts, and they were all no-assembly required.)

Early in the afternoon our guests (Mark and Melanie Vigil and Donna Veca) showed up.  We were really glad to have them for a few reasons. First, the holidays are always better with friends or family. Second, we've grown to love Donna and the Vigils. And maybe the biggest reason: Just a week before Christmas Melanie had a medical emergency which required her to be life-flighted to Denver and we'd been worried about her. So having she and Mark with us was especially great.  (He'd had rotator cuff surgery just four weeks before.  They made quite the pair.)

Tomorrow I'll post a few photos.  Unfortunately, I didn't take one of our friends, but I have a few others.
