Because I'm Behind

Years ago, when I was a younger mom and knew a lot more in theory and a less in practice, I saw a book entitled "A Day Late and a Dollar Short".  I was disgusted.  As if I want to read about how to be late and poor, I thought.

Sixteen years later, I still haven't read the book.  I'm not poor, but I'm not wealthy, either.  I do feel like I'm always late, though--generally because I set silly, unrealistic deadlines  for myself in order to keep from being truly late.

Anyway, I have been working on a post about Marco Island and it's two months overdue.  So, in the meantime, I'm gonna brag about my kids.

Taylor is working her tail off to fund her trip to Anaheim for national FBLA.  She is doing well.  I was proud of her for qualifying and am even more proud of her for working so hard to pay for her trip. I am also dying inside--just a little death, but dying nonetheless, because she will be gone on her birthday, and when I think of that I realize that we don't have enough birthdays left together.

Taylor also worked extremely hard in aAgebra II, persevering  through classes with a less-than-kind teacher and meeting once or twice a week with a tutor.  And in FFA she fixed our old porch bench and made it amazing and beautiful!

When I think of how hard Caleb is working this summer, I don't feel pride. First I feel pain for him.  THEN I take a deep breath and feel pride.  That boy wakes up at 515am four days per week, works an eight or nine hour day doing maintenance and cleaning at the school, and then goes to weights and baseball.  Often he is not done with his day till ten or eleven p.m.  I certainly don't have to worry about his work ethic.  I enjoy catching a few minutes with him each morning when he and I read scriptures together.

Did I mention that he hit a BOMB at his Bombers gamed in Chappell last Saturday?  The hit was made better by the fact that he technically is too young for Bombers and this was his very first game with them AND iT was the only homer that night.   Whoooooeeee!!!

Caleb will take Driver's Ed later this month.

Kenna has a great job working for the Hofmeister family as a mom's helper two days per week.  She helps keep a two year-old and an eight month-old content.  And kenna is beeeaauutiful, and sometimes she is funny.

During the month of June much of my time, energy, and money is invested in baseball.  I  work really, really hard to try to have enough energy and patience to be a good mom off of the baseball field.  Sometimes, after getting home at 11pm or midnight, I am too tired and too grumpy and I fail at that.  VBut I love my kids.  I trust that Jared knows I love him even if we are like ships passing in the night during the summer.  He's amazing!  This summer I am also working on a physics class, which is my challenge and my nemesis. Jared has been fighting with the washer and dryer and the car.  He seems to be winning.

Life is good.  We are very blessed.
