Spring Break Trip 2015: Salt Lake & Rexburg
The girls and I went to Salt Lake and Rexburg for Spring Break. My Uncle Den and Aunt Susan live in Salt Lake. I think we wore them (and me) out! Aunt Susan made amazing taco soup and homemade strawberry shortcake (including real whipped cream from heavy cream). I couldn't quite finish mine. We stayed with them a little less than 24 hours, but we were able to go to church with Aunt Sue and the girls were able to get to know them a little more. As normal, Uncle Dennis told fun stories and Aunt Susan filled us in on the family. She has a great memory and has known my parents for 45-plus years, so I often learn something new from her.
Sunday afternoon we left for Rexburg. On the way, we made an unplanned stop at the Idaho Falls temple, which was the first temple I ever visited. In 1988 my family stopped there when we made our trip around the US (one month, lots of KOA Kampgrounds, a few Motel 6s, and about 25-30 states. I need to blog about it!) Anyway, I thought the temple was even more beautiful at night.
It was nice to have someone share the driving. She didn't even scare me too much.
We spent about 36 hours in Rexburg, including an afternoon on campus. Taylor also spent a few hours driving around town and getting applications at nursing homes. She's taking her CNA class this summer and hopes to work as a CNA during school .
We stayed one night with Jared's brother Matt and his wife Kylie, who were just married last summer. We didn't get to attend their wedding, but we met Kylie at Thanksgiving, and it was really nice to get to visit with them and with Bryant, Taylor's youngest Uncle. Kylie and Matt took great care of us. It was fun to see them. They get the biggest picture because they look so happy together!

This is Jared with 2 of his 5 brothers. Bry (on the right) is the youngest. He's 4 years older than Taylor. Matt is next youngest, and Jared is the oldest. Jared has 3 other brothers and 4 sisters.

We also stayed on night in the Marriott hotel. I had planned to stay in a cheap hotel, but the girls convinced me to upgrade since we were saving a little by staying with Matt and Kylie for a night. I was raised on Motel 6, and I've decided there are very few differences between cheap hotels and more expensive places, but the expensive hotels have nice beds with good pillows and soft sheets and much better breakfasts. That was true of the Marriott. Since I'd finished school on Friday afternoon, stayed up late packing, left early Saturday, and stayed up late Saturday taking to Aunt Susan, I was thoroughly exhausted. In fact, I was at the point where I felt that another night of little sleep would be really hard to handle. The Marriott saved me: I fell asleep almost immediately, slept a sound 6 hours (still not enough, but an improvement), and woke up not feeling more sore (My neck/back were bothering me. As it was, when I went to my physical therapy appointment the day after we got home, I was in bad shape. Sleeping on Matt and Kylie's couch was nice, but not for my neck.) Anyway, the stay at the hotel was like an oasis on the trip. After I woke up, I spent about 4 hours just taking care of myself. (Do I need to say that I never get opportunities like that?!) I had a great breakfast consisting of hard boiled eggs, yogurt, granola, nuts, and fruit. I stretched (or tired to...I was so sore and tight that it took a lot of work). I walked on the treadmill. I stretched some more. Then, to top all that off, I swam and soaked in the hot tub. It was awesome! I almost felt human after that.
this was the most modern hotel I've stayed in.

The temple is unique and beautiful. If I'd been thinking right and realized it was there, I could have attended a session. As it was, I was probably so tired I would've fallen asleep.
