Summer Highlights

Unlike some people who spend the summer vacationing and traveling, we spend the summer living. That's right: we live our normal, everyday life, although we live it in a slightly more relaxed way than we do during the school year. The older kids get to sleep until 8 or 8:30.  I can shower at noon if I've been doing yardwork and all morning. Everyone still does chores.  Isaac does schoolwork. The older kids mow.  I work.  We read scriptures. We just do things on a slightly different schedule than normal.  In a few days all of that will change.  But before it does, here are the highlights of our normal, everyday life.

Kenna and Isaac sold lemonade on the day of Old Fashioned Saturday night.  While I shopped the garage sales, they earned $15, minus a few dollars for supplies. They had a great time serving their customers!

Keeping up with everyone wore Corbin out.

McKenna worked really hard at making this cake for an Activity Girls talent night in July.  Unfortunately, we didn't get to Sterling that night, but it was okay because the talent night was cancelled anyway.  McKenna prepared more talents and showed up at activity girls 2 more times, only to have no talent show.  Finally, about 6 weeks later, the talent show was held.  By then McKenna was tired of baking, so she hula-hooped instead.  By the way, she's an excellent baker and hula-hooper!

Toward the end of the summer I was finally able to find a pool like this again. (We had one years ago when Taylor and Caleb were little.) All summer the kids had begged me to put our bigger pool up, but because of Corbin I wasn't comfortable with something that couldn't be easily emptied and supervised.  Everyone had a blast with this little pool for a week or so,  'til it lost its novelty.

Years ago Jared found a bubble-machine for the bathtub. We'd all but forgotten about it, but late in the summer it helped the kids stay entertained--and clean.
