Crazy Corbin's Adventures at the Park

This morning it happened: The Thing Every Mother Dreads Most.  I'd taken the kids to school and come home; Corbin wanted to take some trash out.  I was in the kitchen cleaning up, so I let him out the back door, which is in the kitchen. I had a clear view of the back yard and he played happily for awhile. I went in and out to help him a couple of times.  At one point I made the Mistake: I went into the bathroom for about 3 or 4 minutes.  When I came back Corbin was gone.  I  did a quick check of our yard, garage, garden, and the alley behind our house, then started to panic.  I went through the house to  the front yard. No  Corbin.  I circled half of our block, calling his name, looking in neighbor's yards, the alley, and the field behind our house.  No Corbin.  I went faster, sprinting through the house, into the road, and in the opposite direction toward the mailbox.  As I neared the mailbox (diagonally across the street from the park) I spied my little guy, looking very content as he stood in the water/rock fountain, throwing rocks and debris.

We had a little discussion. I made things as clear as possible considering Corbin's age.  (I thought I had done that yesterday, too...) Corbin promised never to go out of our yard alone.  I  breathed a sigh of relief...for today.  While I do believe that Corbin's calling in life is not to be a prison escapee, he is extremely well suited for it! He loves to climb our fence and the other day begged me to put him on the roof of the shed next door.   If you think to, please pray for his safety as warmer weather approaches.  We surely will be.

  1. Boy, do I understand 3 year old boys and escaping the yard! I hope Corbin wasn't half naked like my twins were when they escaped the yard at 3. (naked from the waist down). We'll be praying.

  3. oh havilah you guys have your hands full. hehe. Brooklyn did that once to me only she has no concept of stranger danger what so ever! she walked off in Cabellas and I ended up finding her just sitting a chatting with an employee. I don't think she found the lady because she was scareda at all. She was just talking and telling her her life story. I'm so grateful it was a lady and not a creepy guy. But yes it does make you sick to you stomach when you can't find them!
